This summer I officially introduced in-home lifestyle sessions into my repertoire. Being welcomed into people’s homes, getting to see a side of them they don’t always show to the rest of the world, being able to connect with them on a different level than when we meet at a park for posed portraits – this style keeps tugging at my heart strings and I can’t ignore it anymore.
These sessions are no-fuss and focus on the details of your life as it is right now, capturing real moments with very little posing or direction. And the best part – if (and when) it rains, who cares? You can either snuggle up on the couch or embrace it and run in the rain. Which is exactly what I did with the Elmores. The forecast for the day was grim, so we made a plan to bake cupcakes and splash in some mud puddles, then throw the boys in the bath after.
This boy. I can not tell you how many photos I have of him sticking his tongue into a bowl. It was all fun and games until he stuck his finger into the raw egg and licked it off. 😉Is there anything more fun than trying to drown your siblings in a sea of bubbles in your mom’s giant bathtub? I’m gonna go with no, there is not.My direction during a lifestyle session is minimal. I move you to the best lighting, set the stage and capture what happens next. In this case, I told the boys to cuddle with mom. They interpreted that as “beat the crap out of mom with all the pillows.” Hey, who am I to get in the way of a good time?
